2009 Retrospective

The weather predictions varied a bit with most saying 70% chance of rain and thunderstorms with a lone holdout (Accuweather) cheerfully suggesting 20%.

The rain started at about 9AM and continued through the day with thunderstorms and fine cyclist training winds. This was the Leap Frog's first test of how really bad weather would affect the ride. To everyone's great surprise 75 riders participated, only slightly fewer than the number of riders of 2008 with good weather. Although we had incurred greater expenses this year we were still able to make a little money for the club which will go towards on of our various supported charities.

The day started out bright and sunny.

Early Morning RIder

But soon turned to this (between rain storms) at the Milford food stop.

However the volunteers at the stop were in relative comfort. The same could not be said for the brave riders who were pumping water out of their shoes as they rode.

Milford Stop Volunteers

The Reynolds Pond outpost was in unusually good spirits with their coffee. They were driven into their cars during the worst conditions. There were reports of waves five feet high on Reynolds Pond by unreliable sources.

Here an early rider enjoys the dry shores of Reynolds Pond before the typhoon and five foot waves hit the brave food stop.
